New Year, New Blogger

Well, I finally decided to take the plunge…..starting a blog. Seems a little odd, a little scary to me to write about myself, my life, etc and let people read about it. It’s really easy for me to be a big ham and make people laugh when in a group. It’s the one on one or letting people in too close that is tough for me. So bear with me and see how this all unfolds.

My blog name….jack is short for jackson….my sweet little 6 year old jack russell mix. He has been with me for 5 years. I adopted him from the Nashville Humane Association. During the summer they hold doggie adoption day several times during the summer. I went looking for a female puppy Westie. Jackson was about the 150th (seriously) dog that I looked at that day. He wasn’t at all what I was looking for but we had a connection. I walked with him for about 30 minutes, left the site, got a diet coke and thought about it. I went back to the site and asked Jackson if he wanted to come home with me. He literally started jumping up about 4 feet in the air. I wrote the check, got his records and tags and off we went.

The way Jackson ended up in foster care is that a couple found him as a stray pup near their home. They took him in, had him neutered, shots up to date and kept him. They soon had a child. Both parents worked and they soon decided that it was just too much with jobs, a new baby, a dog and lives. So they made the tough decision to place Jackson in foster care. He had been in f/c for less than 30 days and thought there had been several doggie adoption days held by the humane assoc already that year, it was the first that his foster mother had participated in.

Our first stop was PetSmart (one of our favorite places) for doggie toys, foods, etc. I got a cart (or as we southerners like to say “buggy”). I put one of those flat lamb’s wool beds in the cart then put Jackson in the cart. He layed on the bed with his head up looking around as I drove around the store for our purchases. People commented how good he was to stay in the cart and not try to jump out. Someone even asked how long it took to train him to do this. I told them he came pre-trained.

So I hoped you don’t find dogs boring because I’m sure he will be metioned a-plenty in my blog since he is a portion of the namesake. I’m sure from time to time you may even see posts from his point of view….

Some topics that I will write about in the future my past, my present, my new life with CT, how I ended up in Atlanta, things I love, things I don’t like, my relationship with God, my friends, fun activities and such.

I am very excited about blogging and getting to know this blog family more in 2008. I feel we are all in for a great adventure!!!

  1. Welcome to the party, JP! Don’t worry, I think all of us have had the same sort of uncertainty about our “first time” in the blog world, too. I imagine that in no time you’ll get past that and it will become very natural. I, for one, look forward to reading what you have to say. And don’t worry about content about Jackson – virtually all of us have pets that are a part of our own families, and I think we all love hearing about them. Who knows, maybe Jackson will someday have his OWN blog, like Simba and Ruthie!

  2. Welcome! I can’t wait to read about Jackson and you and everything else you feel like writing about!

  3. Welcome!
